Clayton County’s Water Authority’s HR team creates custom engagement experiences throughout the employee lifecycle, including welcome boxes for new hires, stay interviews and engagement surveys with existing employees, and financial and well-being strategies to help support employee needs.
Earlier this year, the team implemented a paperless interview process, allowing the organization’s interview panel to seamlessly conduct interviews using digital tools. These include online interview guides that can be accessed by the interview panel at any time to ensure that they have the most recent information at their fingertips.
Managers are also able to enter scores and write comments during the interview, streamlining the process. The paperless system reduces administrative tasks and allows for quicker data analysis, enabling faster decision-making and a more responsive hiring process. Even more, by eliminating paper, the Clayton County Water Authority is taking steps to reduce its environmental footprint.
The organization has seen significant improvement each year with its annual employee engagement survey. Its 2024 survey yielded a 90% response rate, which was well above the expected 38% response rate. The company’s overall engagement was 71%, with more than 80% of respondents scoring its engagement factors—including pay, benefits, well-being, and overall culture—as “outstanding.”
The Clayton County Water Authority won the HRO Today Association’s North America Award for Best in Class: Employee Experience (Small Market).
