The use of external work has risen substantially over the last several years, with non-employee talent like independent contractors, freelancers, consultants, and temporary workers making up nearly half of the total workforce. Still, research from HRO Today and Magnit indicates that contingent labor is viewed most often as a short-term supplement to the employee workforce, often leaving the planning process unstructured.
