What Does the New FLSA Overtime Rule Mean for HR?
A new rule under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is expanding the right to overtime pay for millions of previously exempt workers. The first portion of the Department of Labor’s new overtime regulation, which went into effect on July 1, makes salaried workers earning less than $844 per week or $43,888 per year eligible for overtime pay. The second portion of the rule, which will go into effect on January 1, increases the salary threshold even higher to include workers earning less than $1,128 per week or $58,656 annually. Beginning in 2027, these earning thresholds will be updated every three years to ensure that overtime regulations keep pace with changes in employee salaries. See more here.

Cyberattacks have nearly doubled since the onset of the pandemic, with organizations grappling with how to keep personal, proprietary information safe from hackers and threats. A recent survey from EY reveals escalating concerns about these cybersecurity threats in the workplace, with 53% of employees reporting they are worried that their organization will be the target of a future cyberattack and others concerned that their lack of knowledge about cybersecurity could open up their company to an attack. See more here.

What HR Leaders Should Know About the PWFA
Pregnant workers may be eligible for additional workplace protections under the recently enacted Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). The key to attracting and retaining top talent lies in empowering employees to take control of their lives, careers, and well-being. At Aspida, this approach centers around the concept of “doing”—encouraging active engagement through volunteerism, personal development, and health initiatives. See more here.
