In “The Age of Augmentation,”AI-fluent professionals may secure promotions more than three times faster.

The professional world knew AI would be disruptive when ChatGPT was unveiled a few years ago. Since then, its impact has become slowly evermore apparent. A new analysis from Randstad of more than 35 million global job postings from 2021 through 2026 reveals AI’s influence on promotions and salary.

The report reveals that professionals who have received advanced AI credentials are having their promotion timelines cut by up to 3.5 years. Those with advanced AI certifications also make about 40% more than those without. And entry-level professionals who have AI skills are seeing higher starting pay, with up to a 25% increase in annual compensation compared to traditional roles.

Conversely, there’s also been a 173% rise in demand for the more human-focused skill of emotional intelligence—demonstrating a demand for balance.

“We are witnessing a fundamental shift where AI fluency and uniquely human capabilities are the new career currency. Businesses cannot unlock AI-driven growth by buying technology alone; the real bottleneck is the severe shortage of professionals capable of integrating, governing, and scaling these systems,” says Randstad CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende. “To succeed in this era of augmentation, leaders must embrace skills-first strategies and continuous upskilling, empowering talent to leapfrog into the advanced roles that organizations need to fuel their growth.”

The analysis found AI fluency had the highest demand within standard job functions in:

  • Marketing (10.9%);
  • engineering (4.0%); and
  • HR (2.5%).

And the following jobs had the highest increase in pay for AI-fluent entry-level professionals:

  • Financial analyst (25% higher);
  • Customer service (24%); and
  • Content writing (25%).
