HRO Today: What’s the biggest trend you are anticipating for 2026?

Lauren Tropeano: The biggest trend for 2026 will be the full integration of human-AI collaboration across every part of work. AI is no longer on the sidelines and it isn’t just a tool; it’s becoming embedded in not only what we’re doing but how teams operate.  As a result, the work itself is also being reimagined. Our reality has shifted from how we work with specific tools to how quickly and productively we can adapt as the work itself evolves. And in the middle of all that acceleration, one truth remains: People make all the difference.

The future of work isn’t about replacing humans with AI; it’s about elevating what makes us most human: curiosity, creativity, and connection. Every company will have access to similar technology, but the real differentiator will be how leaders build, support, upskill, and grow their people to thrive alongside it. That’s why learning and upskilling is no longer just something that HR leaders are focused on; it’s a core part of the business strategy. The companies that invest in continuous learning and building skills and mindsets needed to navigate in this new way of working will define the next era of high performance.

HROT: How do you plan on addressing it?

Tropeano: We are addressing the rise of AI by focusing on what makes work human. AI might be the tablecloth that overlays everything we do right now, but the table underneath remains the same: our shared need to connect, to feel respected and safe, and to have purpose in what we do. That all starts with creating the right conditions for people to thrive. Respect, trust, clarity, and belonging are not abstract ideals; they are what make people capable of performing at their best. At Docebo, we have a culture that is durable, inclusive, and connected, and we lead with transparency and authenticity. The future of work is human and our job is to make sure it stays that way.

HROT: How can HR claim its role as a strategic business enabler?

Tropeano: HR teams can be strategic enablers by stepping beyond day-to-day operations and leading transformation. The choice is clear: Remain in the status quo or step up as a changemaker. Workforces, technologies, and expectations are shifting fast, and HR is uniquely positioned to connect those forces into a coherent strategy for people and performance. That starts with showing up as a proactive partner and ensuring that the function is not reactive. When transformation happens, people teams should come prepared with a plan for how people will succeed. What skills are needed, how will roles evolve, what support will they need to navigate the change, and how will the team know if this change is ultimately successful? There is a critical imperative to shift from reactive process manager to proactive change enabler. Now more than ever, we’re being invited in and have a seat at the table. We need to speak up at the table to chart the path forward and shape the future for our teams, organizations, and industry.

HROT: What advice would you give your younger self?

Tropeano: Follow your heart and choose to spend your time doing something you love with people you enjoy. If you do this, you’ll never work a day in your life.

HROT: What is your favorite way to spend your free time?

Tropeano: I enjoy spending my free time with my children and my husband. We really enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures together, especially through food. There’s so much to learn from experiencing new places, customs, and traditions together, and it’s been something that we’ve enjoyed exploring together.
