Editor’s Note: Striving for Well-being in 2025

Employee mental health and wellness has been a priority for HR leaders for years and it will continue to remain one in the coming new year. And with good reason. DHR Global’s 2025 Workforce Trends Report finds that 82% of employees have experienced some level of burnout—defined as feeling mentally, physically, and/or emotionally exhausted. And the main causes? Long hours (58%), overwhelming workloads (35%), and lack of work-life balance (34%).

“Wellness and mental health have become instrumental in attracting and retaining the new workforce, and employee burnout has become a central focus of that,” says John Staines, managing director and global HR practice leader at DHR Global, in our cover story On the Horizon. Providing comprehensive well-being support for employees is one of the trends outlined in our annual predictions piece.

“Companies with a dedicated well-being program are pulling ahead in the ever-intensifying fight for talent and seeing greater employee performance as a result of well-being programs improving the health of their employees,” says Lívia Martini, chief people officer at Wellhub, in our online feature Championing Holistic Wellness.

Wellhub’s State of Work-Life Wellness 2025 finds that four out of five workers value their well-being as much as their salary. Martini says by demonstrating a genuine commitment to employee well-being, modeling healthy behaviors, and creating a safe and supportive environment where employees feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns, HR can empower employees to prioritize their well-being—leading to a happier and more productive workforce.

So as HR prioritizes well-being, HRO Today will too with continued coverage in 2025. For now, be sure to check out these recent resources to help you hit your well-being goals.
