While new tech transforms the workplace at a rapid pace, a new survey reveals HR leaders struggle to assess and adapt human skills alongside it.

A new study from talent management firm Talogy shows a growing gap between how quickly AI is transforming work and how ready HR functions are to measure, assess, and develop the human skills needed to keep pace.
Talogy surveyed 207 senior HR leaders, talent acquisition managers, and learning and development experts in the U.S. and the UK, and found that 78% admit to facing real challenges when assessing AI skills. Of the leaders surveyed, 38% report feeling “very prepared” to adapt traditional job descriptions and career paths for an AI-enabled world.
Most companies (87%) are using talent assessment frameworks as they measure AI adoption and skills for most or all roles, however, many also complain about how generic these frameworks are. Specifically, because they don’t often provide role-specific insight. Because of that, survey participants (78%) urge future assessments to look beyond technical proficiency and evaluate skills like critical judgment, data literacy, and using AI safely.
The most important skills, according to surveyed HR leaders, are:
- AI tool proficiency (48%);
- data literacy (43%);
- adaptability (42%);
- problem solving (40%); and
- judgement and critical thinking (36%).
