Editor’s Note: Be Well

I made a promise at the end of last year and I’m making good on it: HRO Today’s coverage of employee mental health and wellness will continue to expand in 2025. We begin with a cover story in our first edition of the year: The Way to Wellness. Here I had the opportunity to interview three C-level HR leaders on their approaches to employee well-being and the results their organizations are experiencing. The feedback from these leaders show that wellness offerings have grown from a nice-to-have to a critical piece of company culture.

“At Citizens, we don’t see wellness as a box to check—it’s baked into how we operate. Our whole-person approach covers physical, financial, mental, and social health,” shares Susan LaMonica, CHRO for Citizens. The bank’s programs include increased access to fitness programs, aid for caregiving responsibilities, and a step-challenge fundraiser.

For CHRO Lisa Nadler, Integral Ad Science strives to embed wellness into their company culture. “At IAS, wellness isn’t just a program—it’s part of how we work and lead. From manager training on stress management to fostering a culture of flexibility and inclusivity, we ensure that well-being is a core element of the employee experience,” she explains.

This edition also has special coverage on financial wellness. Did you know that 70% of Americans are not financially health? With this in mind, many organizations are empowering their employees with financial wellness offerings from student loan payment assistance to earned wage access. The key is knowing what workers want.

“It’s important to note that when HR leaders understand their employees’ biggest financial stressors, they can provide solutions either as benefits or programs that address their needs and go beyond a standard benefit that just checks a box,” explains Agata Zasada, SVP of people and culture at ZayZoon. There’s much more to learn in Enabling Financial Freedom.

And if you are looking to expand or add these types of programs to your benefits package, be sure to check out our two listings: Wellness Experts and Furthering Financial Well-being for some of the top leaders in the industry.
