Recent research from HR solutions provider Ciel HR Services finds that disengagement among India’s workforce is widespread across all generations, with Gen Z emerging as the most disengaged group at 34%, followed by millennials at 31% and baby boomers at 30%. This underscores a challenge for employers aiming to foster workplace engagement. Â
The study emphasises that a positive work culture is the top motivator across all generations. For Gen Z, 30% rank it as the most important factor, followed by work-life balance (29%) and career growth (27%). Millennials places even greater emphasis on positive work culture, with 44% citing it as their primary driver, while baby boomers value positive work culture and alignment with mission and values for their engagement. Â
Managing a multigenerational workforce presents both opportunities and challenges. Employers see diverse perspectives (38%), innovation and creativity (28%), and varied skill sets (20%) as the greatest strengths of the workforce. However, they also acknowledge challenges, particularly differences in work styles (40%), technological adaptability (31%), and work-life balance gaps (20%). Â
Additional key findings from the report include the following. Â
- One of the major strengths of having a multigenerational workforce in a company or firm is that there is larger scope for mentorship opportunities (15%). Â
- Generational stereotypes (9%) are also a challenge of having a multigenerational workforce in a firm.Â
