Philadelphia, PA â February 1, 2019 â SharedXpertise, publisher of HRO Today Magazine, has released a new flash report examining the importance and perceptions of the effectiveness of social media in recruitment strategy.Â The flash report, part of a series of ongoing research initiatives addressing topics of interest in the HR community, was sponsored by Newton Talent, an award-winning RPO solutions provider.
Social media has grown to become an essential part of organizationsâ strategies, with 84 percent of survey respondents currently using it for recruitment and 9 percent planning to use it.Â Of those incorporating social media into their recruitment strategies, 79 percent indicated that the tool plays an important or very important role.
âSocial media has become a critical avenue for engaging potential candidates of all ages and disciplines,â Patty Silbert, president of Newton Talent.Â âToday, over 81 percent of the US population has an active social media profile.Â Considering the growth in the use of digital platforms and smart devices, thereâs a really good chance your next top tier candidate could be on one of these portals right now.â
The flash report also assessed the effectiveness of social media as part of recruitment strategy.Â Of the respondents who indicated that they use social media, just over one-half (57 percent) said that it was either effective or very effective.Â In addition, respondents were asked to estimate what percentage of their budget was allocated to social media.Â Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) reported that less than 20 percent of their recruiting budgets was designated for social media, with the average answer reported as 15.9 percent.
âSeveral internal factors, such as staff expertise and budget, can impact the effectiveness of an organizationâs social media recruitment efforts, but external factors also come into play,â said Larry Basinait, Vice President of Market Research at SharedXpertise.Â âHistorically low unemployment rates have created a high demand for workers, which is all the more reason for organizations to embrace social media with a detailed strategy and measurable goals.â
The flash report explored additional questions related to social media in recruitment, including goals, managing the employer brand online, which social media sites are most commonly used, and the arguments against using social media for recruiting.
