Over the past year, Donna Verdi has worked to create a bank-wide shelf of products for colleagues, combining Barclays’ learning and development teams while working to keep policies and governance consistent across both teams. As head of talent and development, she led two bank-wide cultural training deployments and increased training participation by 37%.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Verdi oversaw the conversion of all in-person development courses into virtual ones, including the upskilling of external vendors over a four-week period. Upskilling the company’s training team saved the firm more than $630,000 in delivery fees.

Verdi has led Barclays’ talent and development team with a clear vision, providing employees with purpose and direction. She has overcome challenges by planning ahead and staying agile, focusing on employee engagement and open communication.

Verdi’s talent and development strategies have brought significant results to the company, including a 9% attrition rate, 28% promotion rate, 89% engagement rate, and the development of two leadership programs for more than 600 colleagues.

For her work, she was recognized with the HRO Today Association’s North America Award for HR Leadership, Financial Services.
