VITAS Healthcare offers key benefits that help attract and retain clinical and patient-facing workers.

Despite the challenges faced by healthcare organizations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, VITAS Healthcare saw year-over-year increases in hiring for key clinical roles. Even during the pandemic, VITAS attracted new talent and retained existing talent. This includes 9,237 new employees, 70% involving direct interaction with patients.

That additional staffing enabled VITAS to serve more patients in need of end-of-life care and improve their quality of life. The continued focus on hiring and retention increased the company’s clinical capacity by more than 700 employees in the second half of 2022.

This resulted from hiring nearly 8% more patient-facing employees year-over-year. As of June 2023, the number of open positions is the lowest the company has seen over the last five years.

VITAS Healthcare’s peer-to-peer recognition program allows employees to celebrate with one another and share kudos from patients and their families. The program allows managers and other leaders to celebrate positive stories involving employees. Other ways that VITAS has fostered a positive work environment include training and retention programs, competitive wage structures, PTO and benefit enhancement, and a formal recognition program to encourage employees to celebrate one another.

VITAS Healthcare won the HRO Today Association’s North America Award for Best in Class: Employee Experience, Healthcare.
