U.K.’s The Capita Group Plc has been selected the preferred supplier for a $570 million, 10-year comprehensive BPO contract from the Southampton City Council, the company announced.
The contract, if approved, calls for Capita to deliver a wide range of services including customer services, IT, HR, and procurement. Final negotiations are continuing, with a council decision due in July and the contract expected to commence on the October 1.
Citizens and businesses will benefit from the development of a contact centre and a “one-stop shop,” which will become the first point of contact for all council services. Approximately 600 employees will transfer to Capita and support the delivery of these services.
"We look forward to working with the council to ensure that the local community truly benefits from this partnership,” said Paul Pindar, CEO of Capita. “Our extensive experience of transforming public services combined with the council employees’ expert knowledge of the city will provide a solid platform to deliver enhanced services. Our role in supporting local government
continues to grow strongly.”
Capita has emerged one of the largest provider of public sector BPO services in the U.K., having contracts with scores of local, regional, and national bodies.
