NCQA Receives Excellence in Diversity Award from Chesapeake Human Resources Association

Organization recognized for building diverse, inclusive workplace

WASHINGTON, DC—December 1, 2022—The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) today announced that it has received the James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award from the Chesapeake Human Resources Association (CHRA). This prestigious award honors employers in the greater-Baltimore region that have demonstrated a commitment to promoting a diverse, healthy workplace. The award will be presented to NCQA during a ceremony for all NCQA staff at the Hamilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. on December 8, 2022.

“Equity is part of our lifeblood and central to the value we provide our customers and partners. We are committed to achieving equitable, high-quality health care for all Americans, and we take pride in ensuring our employment practices reflect that commitment,” said NCQA Chief People & Diversity Officer Shawn Talley. “We are proud of our progress but understand that there is more work to do. It is an honor to be recognized by CHRA for our efforts to build a diverse, inclusive and equitable work environment.”

CHRA is a non-profit human resources professional association that aims to provide best-in-class resources to empower the HR community in their efforts to drive business success. Founded in 1930, CHRA serves as the Baltimore-region Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management and has more than 1,000 members as well as two student chapters. The organization’s James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award is presented annually to one or more local organizations that best exemplifies a culture and environment of diversity and inclusion.

NCQA is the only organization to receive the CHRA Excellence in Diversity Award in 2022. The organization was selected for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment through innovative HR initiatives, including:

  • Increasing diversity representation among newly hired and promoted employees from 33% in 2021 to 48% YTD in 2022.
  • Leading annual Diversity, Equity & Inclusion training for more than 370 employees and managers, and DEI strategy education with NCQA assessors.
  • Launching a pilot program to address gaps in diversity among NCQA external committees and vendors.
  • Conducting and implementing actions from an annual Engagement & Diversity Survey to identify ongoing opportunities for improvement.

“We are honored to present the 2022 James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award to the National Committee for Quality Assurance, who are among the Baltimore area’s most recognized businesses dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, inclusiveness and belonging.  This award is presented annually to a CHRA member organization in recognition of the creative and innovative strategies they have put in place to promote and advance the concept and spirit of DEIB,” said Warren White, 2022 CHRA President.
