The People You Associate with Can Help with Your HR Goals

Why is the HROA an important organization to know in your outsourcing endeavors? For companies serious about HRO, read on about the reasons.

by Sharon Taylor

I am extremely pleased to step into my new role as chair of the Human Resources Outsourcing Association (HROA), following in the able footsteps of our former chairman and now chairman-emeritus, Glenn Davidson. The hard work that Glenn and the members of the board have done in building the association over these past few years has established the HROA as a well-respected and growing organization.

This is also an exciting time to be a member of the HROA. Since this is my first column as the chair, I would like to use this opportunity to explain more about the organization: who we are, what we do, and where we are headed.

  • What is the HROA? The HROA is the official organization for those who purchase, provide, or participate in the human resources outsourcing (HRO) industry. Our mission is to promote communication, the exchange of information, and the advancement of best practices in the HRO industry. Our uniqueness stems from the ability to leverage the combined experience of an active and diverse membership.
  • What is the value of membership in the HROA? While there are many benefits to HROA membership, four key areas stand out. The first is industry leadership. Through active participation, HROA members demonstrate their contribution and dedication to the advancement of the outsourcing industry.

The second value is peer networking. HROA members regularly meet and interact with colleagues who shape the industry, including HR practitioners, providers, consultants, and advisors. To facilitate networking, members enjoy discounts and special opportunities at major conferences such as HRO World NY and HRO World Europe, regionalized summits, and global events.

The third value is thought leadership. The organization’s outstanding publications and portals, which include HRO Today and the HROA e-Newsletter, help members stay at the forefront of the industry and learn about the latest thinking and emerging issues. There are also opportunities to contribute articles to these publications and to influence and play a part in ongoing research.

The fourth value is the potential for members to benefit from positive media exposure. The HROA receives interview requests and other media opportunities almost daily, which are passed on to members.

WHAT IS ON THE HORIZON FOR THE HROA?
The HROA has three key areas of focus in 2006. The first is opening an office in Brussels, the new headquarters for HROA Europe. Now for the first time, the HROA can offer an international membership option, making it a truly global association.

Second, the HROA is preparing to launch a completely revamped web site. While the current site works well, the new one will have a significant increase in content for its “members only” section. In addition, the new site will make it easier to facilitate communication among members.

Third, the HROA believes it is important to help clarify important policy issues that relate to the industry. To that end, we are planning to introduce an initiative to give members greater access to policy-and opinion-makers. We believe there is a role for the HROA to play in better educating the public about the nature of HRO.

HOW DO YOU JOIN?
If you are not a member of the HROA, then I welcome you to join your colleagues in the official association for the HRO industry. Feel free to visit www.hroassociation.org to register. If you are already a member, I encourage your increased participation and full engagement as we work together to build a bigger and better HROA.
