Traveling to the city of Brotherly Love when you live in New Jersey isn’t exactly a stretch so travel I did last week to the HRO Today Forum in Philadelphia. For those readers who haven’t put Philly on their list yet, please do. Historically rich, it’s also a great place forgood food, shopping and scenery.

The conference was held at The Westin, which lends itself nicely to events that are seeking to “own” the property for the duration. Many of us remember the rather bombastic iteration of HRO Today event when it was in New York City’s Hilton Hotel; an overwhelming venue for what needs to be a very meet-and-greet, relationship-centric event. Bigger isn’t always better, especially in a portion of a larger industry that makes big deals, one at a time.

Cyber Security – 4/8

Yesterday HRO Today was the victim of cyber terrorism. Briefly, a message appeared that was not generated by us but rather a Middle Eastern extremist group. No personal or financial information was compromised for any of our clients or participants. We are deeply saddened that organizations such as this will target professional businesses and associations for their own gain.

Survey: Changing priorities of the young workforce – 3/12

Futurestep, a Korn Ferry (NYSE:KFY) company offering high-impact recruitment solutions, recently announced the results of a study focusing on attracting and retaining the Millennial workforce. The study finds that the Millennial generation has different professional goal priorities than their generational predecessors.

When asked what matters most to the Millenial employees:

  • 23 percent said “abilility to make an impact on the business”
  • 20 percent said “a clear path for advancement”
  • 16 percent said “development and ongoing feedback”
  • 13 percent said “income”

Trish Healy, Futurestep vice president of RPO Operations in North America says, “Where traditionally we might have expected salary to be the number one differentiator for talent choosing their next employer, Millennials are now placing greater value on understanding what a company stands for and how, as employees, they can play a role in growing the organization into a better, stronger brand.”
