Federal Signal is a manufacturer and worldwide supplier of safety, signaling, and communications equipment, fire rescue products, street sweeping and vacuum loader vehicles, refuse truck bodies, high-performance water- blasting equipment, parking control equipment, carbide and super-hard-tipped cutting tools, precision metal stamping punches, and components for plastic injection molds. Serving more than 5,000 employees, Federal Signal has been managing its payroll and human resources using multiple payroll applications and a combination of outdated systems and even spreadsheet applications for HR.
Realizing that the manufacturer would need to centralize its employee- related information into one system to improve efficiencies and provide real- time access to customizable, consolidated reporting, Federal Signal decided to replace its existing systems with an integrated human resources, benefits, and payroll solution. The company selected Intersourcing in June 2005 with the objective to:
— provide a single system with business intelligence reporting for workforce analysis
— reduce the time spent on administrative tasks by implementing comprehensive HR/payroll capabilities and Web self-service for managers and employees, and
— outsource the IT responsibilities associated with UltiPro to allow the internal IT staff to concentrate on other business-critical systems
